The last time I got headshots, it was a quick snap-snap during my maternity photos last summer. I was super happy with them (especially considering I was 30 weeks pregnant!), and so thankful to our photographer for humoring me. It was so nice to have some photos that I felt beautiful in even at such an...interesting...life stage :)
That said, I knew that as soon as Simon was born I wanted headshots that felt like me. Not me + an 8 pound baby - just me. It's more clear to me now than ever what our bodies go through to make those dang babies and it felt like I should pat myself on the back a little for that and get some photos done of just me.
I know it may seem silly to get headshots--photos of just you, no one else, for basically no reason. But I think they're so important! There's something so nice about having a photo of yourself that you love. It just makes you feel good!
My friend Jessica of Jessica Bonestroo Photography came to Sioux Falls a couple weeks ago and we walked around downtown before grabbing dinner (at McKenzie River Pizza--if you haven't tried it yet, you seriously have to!) and took a few photos. I love how they turned out and I'm so glad to have a 'tog friend like Jess!
Jess took birth photos when Simon was born (not for everyone, I know, but oh man I cherish them!!), and his newborn and six month photos. She's always been special to me, but our friendship has grown so much in the last year! It was so fitting to have her take these.
If you're needing a photo of yourself that just makes you feel good--whether it's to celebrate a recent accomplishment, life stage, or heck, even an awesome haircut--just do it! You won't regret it and it'll do wonders for your confidence! This is one of the reasons why I love my job. Making people realize, Hey, I look pretty darn good! is an awesome thing!
Thanks so much for these photos, Jess! They just make me feel good <3
